Legendary by Stephanie Garber

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I enjoyed the magical storyline, but the overly fantastical writing style Garber uses sometimes detracts from the story rather than adds to it. I'm not sure what "old magic" smells like, and her descriptions made it more difficult to put myself into the story. In her first novel to the series, Caraval, I personally felt a connection with Scarlett and liked following her adventures through Caraval. In Legendary, we instead follow Donatella, only catching glimpses of Scarlett when Tella just happens to find her. It seems to create several holes in Scarlett's storyline and makes it awkward to learn what she's up to in such random, short revealings.
