Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi
Rating: ⭐⭐
“I cannot let the broken girl inside of me inhale all that I've become. I cannot revert back to another version of myself. I will not shatter, not again, in the wake of an emotional earthquake.”
So in the fourth installment of the Shatter Me series we're brought back to the story of Juliet and Warner - post war in the process of rebuilding their confiscated rebel base. True to her writing style, the book does not want for poetic descriptions and language. However, unlike Mafi's other books in the series which are more action oriented, there is a large focus on the ups and downs of teenage feelings, relationships, and inner turmoil. I was really excited to read Restore Me, yet instead of a novel I felt as though I was reading a soap opera. While appealing to some, I personally was disappointed that it didn't really live up to its predecessors. With the mediocre plot revelations and "teen angst drama" this turned into, we could very well have interchanged the plot with parts of the The Selection and not even know the difference. Mafi's depiction of the characters completely contrasts her poetic writing style, making them sound unsophisticated and whiny. I was severely let down in this continuation.
